Your healthcare provider may use medical imaging tests like X-rays to create your personalized treatment plan. An X-ray is a quick and painless test that takes images of the inside of your body, most commonly your bones.

What is an X-ray?

An X-ray imaging test sends beams of electromagnetic radiation through your body. Denser tissues, such as bones, absorb more of those rays, making them appear white on the X-ray image. Less dense tissues, like fat and muscle, absorb fewer X-rays and appear in shades of gray.

Why might you need an X-ray?

Your provider may order an X-ray to get a closer look at conditions such as:

Arthritis
Bone fractures
Bone Bone growth progress
Osteoporosis (bone loss)
Bone cancer
Lung infections
Heart disease
Digestive problems

What can I expect at my X-ray appointment?

When you call to schedule your X-ray appointment, our staff will give you instructions and ask questions about your health history. They will also answer any questions you have about getting an X-ray. Here’s what you can generally expect at your X-ray appointment:

Before Your X-ray: Our team will provide instructions on how to prepare and will ask about any relevant medical history, such as pregnancy or previous allergic reactions to contrast materials.
During Your X-ray: You will be positioned properly to ensure clear images. The procedure is quick and painless.
After Your X-ray: You can return to normal activities immediately unless instructed otherwise by your provider.

What are the risks or side effects of an X-ray?

At MRI NOW Miami, we prioritize your safety and comfort during all imaging tests. While X-rays expose you to a low dose of radiation, the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Most patients do not experience any side effects from getting an X-ray.

Radiation Exposure: X-rays involve minimal radiation exposure. However, it’s important to inform your provider if you are pregnant or suspect you might be, as radiation can be harmful to an unborn child.
Allergic Reactions: Rarely, patients may experience allergic reactions to contrast materials used in some X-rays. Always inform our team of any known allergies.

How do I get an X-ray?

You’ll need a prescription from your provider to get an X-ray. Once your provider gives you a prescription, you can call MRI NOW Miami to schedule your appointment.

How much does an X-ray cost?

The cost of your X-ray will depend on your insurance coverage. After your provider prescribes an X-ray, our Pre-registration and Authorization Department will confirm the price with you. If your insurance does not cover your X-ray, you can choose to self-pay. Our Central Pricing Office will work with you to arrange a payment schedule.
